Examining the old ticket stub that she handed over caused me to become a bit nostalgic. Not for the songs of that particular day, or even for a year long since passed. But for that unburdened feeling mustered whenever I ventured out among the crowds. The theater, Times Square, even the green grocer just across the street.
Simple moments, both unaffected and uninfected.
I don’t suppose that life will return to normal anytime soon. I’m not even sure what normal is supposed to be right now.
But maybe the music from that day will quiet my body. Those chords still echo in my head.
This old ticket stub is a decent reminder that nothing will ever destroy the fateful sounds of a new day. Or any day still ahead for that matter.
Not even today’s forbearance while we await those noisy crowds once again.
