It never lasts long.
But the summer sky always gives over all of itself for the duration. Through the years, as we come more and more to appreciate both the intensity and the briefness forever clutching at our own lives, we late understand that neither alone could ever move us.
Or serve us.
We are as satiated a creature as we are hungry, as bold as we are afraid. Constantly on the lookout for that one clever angle that will finally unleash enlightenment, we trivialize any who boast that they have already found it. Even if only ourselves.
Perhaps especially ourselves.
Once the fall arrives and the days begin their final countdown, some will still seek refuge there. But leaving them to yet wonder what’s become of the summer sky.
