On The Twilight Just Ahead

Twilight just ahead.

It appeared, as if from nowhere,

More rapidly than I ever noticed,

More devastatingly than I ever surmised,

More alluringly than I ever dared hope.

The path now compresses,

As the breath next collapses,

And the heart, at last, caves in.

You reach back for my hand,

As I reach ahead for His.

Flesh and mind, and

Body and soul.

All have now

All need now

Let go.
