Thoughts this weekend about life, about parenthood (days past, and days yet ahead), new beginnings, and next steps.
Whether 9 or 90, we are always learning how to fly. Every new opportunity, every new experience is a chance to grow and to learn and to come alive one more time.
I, for one, forget that far too often.
But as hard as any of that is – and it is hard – it’s more challenging, still, to reject change or to ignore the growing pains. Or to act as if we can prevent any of it.
It’s change or die – spiritually, if not physically.
C.S. Lewis had this bit of wisdom for us:
It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for a bird to learn to fly while remaining an egg.
We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg.
We must be hatched or go bad ― Mere Christianity
Hatch or go bad.
Those really are the only two choices.
Choose wisely – and then don’t forget to fly!
