Toward a New St. Benedict

Toward a New St. Benedict
-on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Elizabeth

Demographic decline on one side, incompatibility of discourse on the other, here I am, stuck in the middle with you, too. Exasperated. Frustrated. Exhausted. Dismayed.

Incredulous at the incomprehensiblity of the rate of decay and the atmosphere of fear that has set upon everyone; everyone too trembling to say a gentle word to their neighbor because of the spark of their angst and inner turmoil.

One soul at a time, keep engaging, keep evangelizing, find a common first principle from which to restart discourse.

Quo Vadis, Domine? Don’t leave the cities as Peter fleeing prison, but return to where the Cross awaits you.

The monastic tradition has flourished through many fruitful branches from the time of the heremetic Desert Fathers through the centuries to the various Contemplative communities now springing up.

Set up your new urbanite monasteries right in the middle of the cities instead of fleeing for the hills.

Your prayer, faith, and instruction are needed now more than ever.
