Overnight the familiar aroma of renewal began its slow, downward descent.
First hints of airborne irritants, real or imagined, settle in my throat as
the full weight of my body lets the ground give way, ever so slightly.
Leaves, dirt, and the squirming life just below the surface prepare
to reposition themselves away from the hibernation, isolation,
and deathless quiet of a winter still negotiating its surrender.
