The clock on the mantle stopped last night, sometime around midnight.
As if unsure about itself, or contemplating whether one more sweep around was even necessary.
I really shouldn’t read too much into the actions of a generations-old time piece that has been keeping an eye us these past twenty years, now at rest.
But its momentary lull reminds me that there is something, perhaps in the stepping back, that can strip darkness of its power and corruption of its grip
Once surrender no longer measures loss
