To engage in the world is to be hurt.
Vulnerability opens us up to manipulation,
Lies are too often returned for pure honesty,
Callousness will dull the pain of our failing love.
Yet all attempts to remove ourselves doubtless fail.
We were meant to seek, to find, to know, to be, to love.
Our pretense of indifference only masks a ferocious passion
