The Caller’s Called

The Caller’s Called
-after Longfellow’s Evangeline
When she had passed, it seemed like the ceasing of exquisite music.
When it was time for Gabriel to spirit her to Him,
that is, when she heard His call to go,
she had just disembarked from Church
for vespers, or penance, or liturgy and communion.
She goes to where you do not know,
she goes and you are ever in vigil,
she goes with your breathing a hope of dawn,
she goes so you follow the music.
That music that has yet to cease,
where she abides with Him in your prayers,
where you hear the music still, giving a call you once received,
as in each call is the hope to meet again.
For me, dear Brother, like you, I follow the music as she follows the call
