If, Today, I Walked Among You

If, today, I walked among you, would you still not see?
If, today, I spoke words of love, would you still not hear?
If, today, I undertook works of mercy, would you still not be healed?
If, today, I acted in fulfillment, would you still not know?
If, today, I avowed myself, would you still not have faith?
Would you rush by, silently,
Without stopping, without even a look,
Without a touch, without even one thought?
Or would you, yet again,
Accuse and condemn and dispatch?
Each day, each passage, each act
Tells the tale,
Each moment, each movement, each reaction,
Reveals the truth.
